Reclaiming Prosperity: Building Stability & Security for Part-Time, Temporary & Contract Workers[lectures, books, and readings]
From the Town Hall web site, "The nature of work is changing: Whether by necessity or by choice, more and more Americans are working in part-time, temporary, or contract jobs. This trend toward “flexible” or “contingent” employment impacts workers in low-wage service jobs: Increasingly, employees in knowledge- and information-based industries, including those that help fuel Seattle’s economy, are forced into temporary positions, and contingent workers often lack access to employment benefits such as healthcare and retirement security; paid sick leave; and worker rights, such as the right to join a union. This event, the second in a new ongoing series, features nationally known labor and economic experts Ken Jacobs, Chair of the U.C. Berkeley Labor Center, and Chris Benner, Chair of the Community Development Graduate Group at U.C. Davis, who discuss part-time and temporary employment as they work to identify innovative solutions that build stability and security for workers in today’s economy."
